Our house is pretty much always filled with music. If it isn’t music from the iPod or iPad, the kids are playing with their toy instruments. My daughter loves to sing and pretend to be a rock star. Of course, every rock star needs the perfect microphone so we decided to make her a toy microphone from some simple and inexpensive supplies.
This month’s craft challenge was to make a craft that would cost less than $5 to make. I went back and forth with what to make but I spotted some leftover duct tape my friend Liz had left here and I knew what I would do. It only takes 4 supplies to make this toy microphone and you can fully customize it by changing the tape and even painting the microphone part.
What You’ll Need:
– an empty toilet paper roll
– duct tape in your choice of pattern
– a Styrofoam ball
– one piece of newspaper or other leftover paper
– hot glue
To start, you’ll want to make small cuts all around the top of the toilet paper roll.
We colored the little pieces at the top with a black marker but that is totally optional. Wrap the bottom and sides of the tube with your tape. Then, stuff it with paper. Hot glue the ball on top and you are ready to rock.

This is a fun project and I have everything on hand to make one. My son loves taking items and turning them into something cool, especially when he can do it himself. I know what we’ll be trying tonight!
