Ok, I know the Superbowl is still a little ways away (5 February for those non-sports folks) but a great Superbowl Party requires planning! It takes a lot to keep a group of football crazed fans happy.
Let’s start with food! Now, normally, besides What to Cook Wednesdays, I don’t really do a whole lot of recipes around here. BUT, I have a snack that is going to change your party. What is it?
Cayenne Candied Bacon
It’s ok…I’ll give you a minute to let that soak in. I did say bacon and candied in the same sentence after all.
Now, ready for how to make it? Good! I’ll share the steps with the help of Junior who first introduced us to this life altering treat.
First up, gather your ingredients:
– 1 lb turkey bacon (feel free to use regular but adjust cooking times accordingly…you’ll see from pictures that I did both)
– 1 cup brown sugar
– 3/4 tsp cayenne pepper
– vegetable oil or cooking spray
Now, let’s get our candy on!
First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Next, cover your rimmed baking sheet(s) in aluminum foil. Trust me, this is a very important step!
Lay your bacon on top of the rack without letting the pieces touch.
In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cayenne pepper. Mix it really well to ensure the spice is blended into the sugar as evenly as possible.
Coat the top of your bacon pieces with the brown sugar mixture. You may not use the entire amount of sugar mixture and that is ok!
Stick that turkey in the oven! Set the time for 20 minutes.
After the 20 minutes mark, start to check it every 5 minutes or so. For real bacon, the cooking time will be shorter so keep that in mind.
Let it cool for a minute or two and then transfer to parchment or waxed paper to drain. I would not recommend paper towels because they will probably stick.
ENJOY your treat!

- 1 lb turkey bacon (feel free to use regular but adjust cooking times accordingly...you'll see from pictures that I did both)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ¾ tsp cayenne pepper
- vegetable oil or cooking spray
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Cover a large baking sheet with foil. Spray an oven safe nonstick cooling rack with cooking spray and place on top of the foil.
- Lay bacon flat on the rack without the pieces touching.
- In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and cayenne pepper. Spread on top of the bacon pieces. {Note: You may not use the entire sugar mixture}
- Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Turn the pan 180 degrees and bake for an additional 10 minutes. At this point, check the bacon every 2 minutes or so until done.
- Let cool on the baking rack for 2 minutes and then transfer to parchment paper or nonstick foil.
