I have a sweet tooth…a big one. Some days, I think all my teeth are sweet because my cravings are that strong. One of my absolute favorite things is salted caramel sauce. I love it on ice cream, in desserts…with just about anything sweet.
Caramel sauce is super easy to make and keeps in the fridge for several days too! I made a few tweaks to it to make it into the salty confection I was after!
What You’ll Need:
– 1/2 cup heavy cream
– 4 Tbsp butter
– 1 cup brown sugar
– 1 Tbsp vanilla
– 2 tsp kosher salt
Let’s Make It:
1) In a heavy saucepan, heat heavy cream and butter over medium-low heat. After the butter is melted, whisk in brown sugar.
2) Bring mixture to a boil and let simmer for about 5-6 minutes, whisking frequenty.
3) Add in vanilla slowly being carefull as the mixture will bubble. Cook an additional minute. Remove from heat and add stir in salt.
4) Pour the salted caramel sauce into jar or bottle and refrigerate until ready to use. To use, simply warm slightly in the microwave to loosen.
Now, get ready to use this delicious salted caramel sauce on everything! Or, if you are like me, just take a {little} spoonful now and then.

The recipe doesn’t say when to add the salt? Add with the vanilla or the brown sugar? Thanks.
Shannah says
Oh goodness, I am so sorry about that! After I stir in the vanilla and let it cook for a minute, I remove it from the heat and stir in the salt. I updated the recipe to reflect this.
Jocelyn says
This is delicious and oh, so easy! Since I was making it for a cake recipe, I cut back on the salt. However, next time I make this syrup, I will try the full salt amount. THANKS!
Shannah says
So glad it turned out well for you. I love the flavor the salt adds.

Sounds fantastic. I have a big sweet tooth (or ten) too! And caramel is my favorite on ice cream! Pinning.
alyssa says
for the butter, would it be unsalted because of the kosher salt, or would it be salted butter?
Shannah Coe says
I typically only buy unsalted butter so I used that. You could use salted butter if that was what you had and just reduce the kosher salt a little bit {maybe by a pinch since salted butter isn’t really that salty}.
