Chalkboard week continues! I’ve got another ridiculously simple project today. This time I am combining my trusty chalkboard paint with ceramic tiles to create chalkboard ceramic coasters.
Start with plain white ceramic coasters from the hardware store. They are super cheap but make great coasters. Paint on the chalkboard paint. I do 2-3 coats to get good coverage.
Let the paint dry overnight to completely cure. Then, rub the entire coaster with chalk.
Once you wipe off the chalk, you are ready to start using your coasters.
The back of the ceramic tiles can be a bit rough so I suggest putting some kind of buffer on the back. I usually get the little cork pieces and glue them on to the back.
These coasters are great for keeping drinks at parties separated so no one ends up accidentally sharing their drinks. Just set out the coasters and some chalk and let the party begin.
How do you use chalkboard paint? Do you label drinks in some way for parties to keep them straight?
You can find the list of great parties I link up to each week here.

This is such a cute idea. I hate my coasters right now, cheapos from Bed, Bath, & Beyond. Thinking I need to upgrade to this. Pinning.

This is SUCH a cool idea. I’ve never used chalkboard paint, but as a former prolific driveway artist, I’ve always been in love with the idea that you could turn almost anything you wanted into a chalkboard. I can’t think of that many excuses to write something in a pretty color and then erase it and write something else later, but coasters are a great one.
Kollabora, the online crafters’ community I’m part of, has been kind of light on home decor posts lately. I’d love to see these over there!

I absolutely love chalkboard paint and find myself putting it on all kinds of stuff. I just saw a blog post where the blogger painted her lamp shade with it so that is on my list of things to try now 😉
