Summer is just about here, and you know what that means? It’s mojito season!
Traditionally, mojitos are a rum based drink made with fresh lime and mint leaves. But summer fun calls for breaking tradition from time to time and that’s just what this month’s cocktail is all about!
Hi everyone, it’s Christin from Blue Crab Martini and I’m back with another delicious drink recipe that’s sure to whet your whistle on the hot summer days ahead. Rum, fresh berries, more rum, crisp mint, and did I mention rum?? The Blueberry Mojito is a fresh and flavorful drink that’s sure to cool you down when the mercury’s on the rise.
A whole cup of fresh blueberries goes into the simple syrup that flavors this drink and gives it such a beautiful color. Making the syrup is, well, simple (hence the name “simple syrup”). All you need are fresh blueberries, agave (or liquid sweetener of your choice), and water. Everything combines and slowly simmers for a few minutes until the flavors all mix together to create a perfectly sweet, perfectly fruity syrup that’s bursting with the flavors of summer.
Blueberries are at their peak in the summer months, making them especially sweet and juicy. Picking blueberries is one of our family’s favorite things to do in the summer and I plan to set aside enough berries to make these mojitos all season long. If you’re lucky enough to pick them straight from the source, go for it, but if the store bought variety are all that’s available, those will work just fine too.
If you’re a fan of traditional mojitos but like the shake things up from time to time, you’re going to love this Blueberry Mojito! Refreshing, crisp, and with a hint of sweet berry flavor, this drink is the perfect way to welcome summer. Until next month, cheers!
