Hey y’all! It’s Ginger from Gingerly Made again. Last month I posted how I was organizing my kid’s room beginning with a knob hanger for bathrobes or pajamas or whatever other piece of wearable clothing that usually gets tossed on the floor. This month I am going to show you my stuffed animal organization to get them off the floor. It’s another fantastically simple project that has already transformed the tidiness of our kids room.
Our kid’s room is one of the most difficult to photograph rooms in our house, so please excuse the lighting in these photos.
To begin with, you need a couple of metal horse trough style flower boxes. You can find these at most hardware stores or garden centers. This is a pic from Home Depot’s site where I got mine from. This one is 24 inches wide. They also have some that are 36 inches wide if you have a lot of stuffies or really large stuffed animals.
I spray painted each basket and 2 two-foot long boards with a Robin’s Egg blue. The same as the knobbed hanger from last month.
After they dried, I glued some clips I found at the office supply store onto each board. I used hot glue, but I’ve had a few clips fall off, so I’m going to go back and use some E-6000 glue to make SURE they stay on.
Finally we hung each basket and clip board on the walls. I made sure each of my girls could reach their basket. I had planned to hang them one over the other, but because of reach issues, we decided to stagger them side by side. I think it looks a lot better this way. It was a “happy little accident”. Anybody else remember Bob Ross?
And of course, they had to add some new art work for their art work clip boards. I asked them to draw a picture of their family. They drew clowns. What does that say about us?? Ok, so the little one was copying her older sister, but still…
As you can see, we still have a lot of work to do in their rooms; like paint the bookshelf white and do something with that purple dresser. Honestly in their room, at this stage, I’m going for functional over super designed cutesy. I have girls, so there will be plenty of time in their future for wanting the perfectly styled room. Right now we are in survival mode and that means lots and lots of organization. And THAT’s why I’m loving these baskets. They keep stuff off the floor. We can find stuffed animals easily right before bed instead of having to hunt all over the house for just the right one. And it encourages them to keep up with their things and to keep their rooms tidy.
