Our gift list gets longer and longer each year it seems. Between teachers, therapists and friends, we need to get a little creative to with the gifts we give so we don’t totally blow our holiday budget. Homemade gifts are a great way to go because they are thoughtful and also help keep us our spending down too. Movies are always a favorite in our house so I created some baskets filled with movie night dark chocolate popcorn mix and the gift of a movie rental.
I started the gift baskets by putting lots of yummy movie treats in them like my dark chocolate popcorn mix and other favorite movie theater candy. Originally, I had thought about buying movie tickets but I know how difficult it can be to get out and see a movie in the theater. So, I turned to our favorite movie option (we are Playpass members so we earn points for rentals) and purchased Redbox Gift Cards. You can buy promo codes that are good for one night rentals which make perfect gifts. The codes can easily be used online or at the Redbox kiosk.
I wanted a creative way to present them so I dialed up my friend Kim over at Seven Thirty Three and she created these amazing gift tags where you can add the code right on it. Be sure to download them here.
Redbox has all the amazing titles your gift recipient will want to rent like Jurassic World, Pitch Perfect 2 and even Inside Out. They can use them whenever they want and it makes for a perfect family movie night or a date night…or even a great movie for a sick day. I would totally love to get this gift box for sure since we use Redbox all the time!
One of the key pieces to the gift basket is the popcorn because you can’t have a movie without popcorn!
Dark Chocolate Popcorn Mix Ingredients:
1 cup popped popcorn
1 cup dark chocolate chips
2 tsp sea salt
1 cup M&M candies
Let’s Make It:
1) Line rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread popcorn on pan.
2) Melt chocolate chips in microwave for 45 seconds. Stir until smooth. Drizzle over popcorn. Sprinkle with sea salt. Let set for 15 minutes. Combine with M&M candies and package in jar or little gift bags.
This popcorn is totally delicious. I can eat an entire batch of it all by myself. Whoever you give this to is going to LOVE it! Combine it with any choice of movie snacks, the perfect gift tag with a free movie rental and you have the perfect gift! It also makes a great last minute gift too because you can get all of the items you need at your local store and from your computer!
I hope your Christmas and holiday season is a fantastic one. Have you finished your gift shopping or do you still have more to buy or make?
