These days major house projects tend to take a backseat to kid activities, outings and spending time in the kitchen. Of course, I also spend a ton of time behind the camera photographing the stuff that comes out of the kitchen. I like to have lots of different surfaces to photograph on and am always looking for new ideas of things to use. The path to this speckled concrete photo backdrop came from the strangest discussion yet.
Mathlete and I were outside with the kids one evening and I commented how our garage floor was looking pretty rough. It has some stains and just could use a major refresher.
He totally agreed but said that we didn’t really have the time to undertake the project. I told him I would totally take care of it and hit the store for the supplies I would need. I knew I wanted the neat speckled finish I had seen in a neighbor’s garage so I picked up BEHR PREMIUM® 1-Part Epoxy Concrete & Garage Floor Paint and the BEHR PREMIUM® decorative flakes.
While in the store, I had a total stroke of genius though and grabbed a concrete paver too. I used it along with the paint and decorative flakes to create an awesome speckled concrete photo backdrop.
We were waiting for the weather to clear so we could haul all of our stuff out of the garage and I was looking for a quick project to pass the time. The backdrop is so easy to make and it is the perfect way to use some of the extra paint and flakes I knew we would have from our garage project. In about 5 minutes plus some drying time, you have the perfect speckled backdrop! Simply paint on the BEHR paint (I used 2 coats) and then, while it the paint is wet, sprinkle on the decorative flakes. Just look at these gorgeous flakes!
Then, let it dry. It really is that simple to create a unique and gorgeous backdrop that is perfect for photos. I absolutely love how it turned out and love that I could use something we would be using for our major garage floor project for another use too.
Have you ever repurposed items from one project for another project? We’re still working on carving out the time to do the garage floor but we have to wait for this streak of rain to go away first! Our supplies are still waiting in the garage for our first sunny day so we can clean up and protect the floor with our BEHR Premium paint.
