Are you loving summer so far? It is so hard to believe that it is already late August and the kids will be going back to school next weekend. Thankfully, we are still getting some beautiful, although a little hot, weather to end our summer break. We’re planning a fun end of summer BBQ for Labor Day and I was thinking chipotle burgers with avocado would be the perfect thing to serve.
I love the smoky flavor of this burger and my favorite drink for it is a glass of JaM Cabernet! We love enjoying a glass of JaM Cabernet at our BBQs because it is berry-licious and has a great mass appeal so that we know all of our guests will enjoy it. The JaM Cabernet is made in the California tradition of rich, bold and luscious and, because they are easily found in local stores, it is a great way to bring California wines to tables all around the country.
Ingredients for Chipotle Burgers with Avocado:
1 lb ground beef
1/2 lb ground pork
2 chipotle peppers in adobo, minced
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
2 Tbsp adobo sauce
4 slices gouda cheese
4 onion hamburger buns
Salsa:
1 avocado, chopped
1/4 cup chopped tomato
1 jalapeno, minced
1/2 Tbsp lime juice
1/2 tsp adobo sauce
1/2 Tbsp chopped cilantro
Let’s Make It:
1. Heat grill to medium-high heat.
2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, chipotle peppers, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well and form in 4-5 burgers.
3. Place burgers on grill and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side or until they reach desired degree of doneness. Add cheese and grill for an additional minute. Remove from grill and place on hamburger buns. Top with adobo sauce.
4. To make salsa, combine avocado, tomato, jalapeno, lime juice, 2 tsp adobo sauce and chopped cilantro in a small bowl. Stir to combine. Serve on top of burger.
BBQs are totally meant to be laid back and fun so play around with the ingredients here. The most important part is to have fun and enjoy the evening which makes a glass of JaM Cab the perfect drink for the event. It is fun and easy to drink.
This luscious, easy-drinking Cab doesn’t need to wait for a gourmet meal… it’s right at home in the sunshine, at sunset, or with a burger or BBQ—it’s totally our kinda JaM! Be sure to check the JaM store finder to locate the best place to buy it near you. You can also click here to get more ideas and download the perfect playlist for summer bash.

That burger looks so delicious! Unfortunately, I don’t eat spicy food, but I had to comment because it does look delicious!
Shannah Coe says
Thanks! You can definitely tone down how spicy it is and just leave it as more of a smoky flavor by using less chipotle pepper in the recipe.

Hi Shannah! This burger looks scrumptious! I just have two questions: can I substitute the ground beef for ground turkey? and what is ‘adobo’ sauce? and where can I buy that? Oops! I guess that’s three questions. This really looks delicious and I’m sure my family will love it. Thanks for sharing the recipe. Pinning! 😛

Hi! Yes, you can most definitely substitute the ground beef for ground turkey. The fat content will be lower so you might up the liquid just a small amount to make up for it.
My chiles in adobo sauce are usually found in the Mexican aisle of the grocery store. Here is an example: http://amzn.to/2c9jqBF
