By now, it is no secret we are working on finishing our unfinished basement (see here, here and here for evidence).  Mathlete is doing the bulk of the work himself to save money.  However, there are a few things that he would rather pay a little more for to make sure it is done exactly right by someone with more extensive knowledge on a subject than he might have.

One of these things is plumbing. 
We haven’t quite gotten to the actual plumbing installation and hook-ups yet {therefore actually needing a plumber to come out and assist} but Mathlete is already talking to people with extensive plumbing knowledge to make sure he is doing all the pre-work correctly.  He wants to make sure he does everything possible to prevent plumbing problems in the future for our basement.
We’re at the framing portion which includes framing around all the current plumbing that is there and our future bathtub and other fixtures.  Mathlete wants to make sure it looks like this

so that we can hopefully prevent any major plumbing problems in the future.  Also, insuring that the framing is correct from the start helps in case there is any problem in the future. 
Another thing that has been important is making sure that we have the right fixtures to work with the rough in installed by the builder.  For us, this meant two trips to the home improvement store versus one but I think the extra trip was worth it to make sure we have the right stuff for the job.
