I am so excited to be partnering with SNAP Creativity and Recollections Glitter for this project. As always, all thoughts and opinions shared here are my own. #glitteratmichaels
I’m a wreath failure, ya’ll. Yep…a total failure. I set out to make one of those gorgeous canning jar ring wreaths and totally failed. I think it was something to do with me being totally impatient but who knows. What I do know is that I was left with the 380 canning jar rings I purchased off of Craiglist ($10…score!) and no clue what to do with them. What’s a girl to do? Well, being the holidays, I decided it made perfect sense to add glitter to a bunch of them and use them as candle holders. Now, I am in love with glittered canning jar ring candle holders but still have like 350 more rings and no clue what to do with them. Ideas are appreciated!
So, to make these candle holders, you’ll need
– some canning jar rings {seriously, I’ll mail you some}
– mod podge
– a foam paint brush
– some glitter
I chose the really fine Recollections brand glitter because I like the color selection in both the sets and individual bottles available. Plus, I thought it would work well on my project and any future crafts I may want to add glitter too. If you want a bigger glitter {i.e. chunkier or tinsel glitter}, they have that too {and it starts at only $3.99…score} and either of those will definitely work on this project.
Oh, you’ll want several large bowls or boxes too for glitter overflow. A paper plate works great too in a punch.
Start by brushing mod podge onto your canning jar ring. Be generous so it will really grab the glitter.
Then, over one of your bowls or boxes, pour glitter onto the mod podge. Lightly shake the ring to remove the excess glitter {over the bowl/box obviously}. Set down and let dry for 1-2 hours.
I also created a few where the ring inserts were glittered and then glued inside. I used those to raise the candles up a bit versus creating a candle ring. The process is the same…mod podge…glitter…let dry.
I wanted the glitter to really be the star here so I just paired the candle holders with some white candles I had. So sparkly…I’m in love!
What have you done with canning jar rings recently? Have you been working with a bunch of glitter during the holidays?
You can get Recollections #glitteratmichaels in all sorts of colors and textures starting at only $3.99. Plus, they are available in sets or individual bottles.
