Back to School preparations continue here in the Just Us Four house!
So far, we’ve done school supplies and shoe shopping.
This past weekend it was haircuts! Hair Cuttery does a fantastic program this time a year called “Share-A-Haircut“.
For every child that comes in a pays for a haircut (like us!), Hair Cuttery donates a haircut to a local child in need.
Here’s Miss H before we headed off to the salon.
We made sure to go all out for her back to school haircut so she started with the shampoo.
Look at the focus she has on what the woman is doing. She was totally cracking me up at how serious she was taking the whole thing.
And…the finished product!
And yes, she changed outfits into her “favorite” dress! |
Are you headed out for back to school haircuts soon? If so, and you have a Hair Cuttery near you, please consider taking part in their Share-A-Haircut program. The program runs from August 1st through the 15th! It is such a simple way to give to those less fortunate.
Don’t have a Hair Cuttery nearby but still want to participate? You can share the Share-A-Haircut Facebook App on your page between July 18th and August 15th and Hair Cuttery will donate a haircut!
When you go, also keep some of these tips, courtesy of Hair Cuttery owner Dennis Ratner, for getting a great cut in mind:
1. Go to the salon with a plan. In the days leading up to a haircut, ask your child what type of cut he or she wants. Use reference points like family members or celebrities to help them capture their ideas.
2. As for someone who specializes in children. Many salons – including all Hair Cuttery locations – employ stylists who focus on kids’ cuts.
3. Use examples. When it comes to hair, pictures really ARE worth 1,000 words. Showing your stylist a photo helps make sure everyone’s on the same page.
4. Take baby steps towards a big change. If your child wants to make a drastic change to their hair (like cutting off 5 inches!), breaking it into smaller increments can help easy your child’s adjustment to the change. Bonus – If you or your child isn’t loving the new look, doing it in stages gives you the opportunity to stop before things go too far!
5. Get post-cut styling tips. Before leaving the salon, ask the stylish to demonstrate how they styled the cut.

We’re at a point in our basement finishing project where we do a lot more shopping than actual working. No complaining here!
We went tile shopping a few weeks ago to try and finalize some selections for the bar floor, bathroom wall and floor tiles.
Our first {and turned out only} stop was The Tile Shop which is fairly close to our house. Whoa…that place is like a tile mecca. Of course, I’ve never shopped for tile before at anywhere other than Home Depot or Lowes so please take that into account.
The store has rows and rows of tiles.
They also have these neat little bathrooms, bars, kitchens, etc. set up around the store so you can see the products in a real setting.
We walked around for awhile and I snapped pictures of things I thought were neat.
Then, we narrowed it down a little more and grabbed a salesperson to help us. They were wonderful and ran laps around the store grabbing suggestions to pair with the items we’d brought in that our tiles would need to coordinate with (i.e. countertop backsplash).
So, what did we choose?
Our bathroom wall tile will be Capua Blanco
We will also do an eye level listello with this {called Glass Myst Blend}
The floor in the bathroom will be these awesome hexagon tiles {Hampton Carrara Hex 2″} with a gray grout
You can kind of see it on the floor of this model bathroom
Over in the bar area, we’re doing travertine tiles on the floor. We had already picked out our countertop and backsplash so we really wanted something that would coordinate with that well. We went with Claros Silver
**I wasn’t paid or perked to mention The Tile Shop. We just happened to find stuff we liked there when shopping.**

Part of my closet organization includes these awesome water hyacinth baskets
Traditional labels like I used in my pantry labeling project just won’t work with these so I looked for another option. I remembered using one of the Pick Your Plum clip on labels and thought that would be a great solution for the linen closet dilemma.
The problem: I didn’t have any more of them.
What’s a crafter to do when she doesn’t have what she needs: make more!
I grabbed some little wood rectangles and clothespin from Michaels.
Then, I grabbed some of my chalkboard paint and some painters tape. I taped off about 1/4 of an inch all the way around the rectangle and then painted the middle.
I did a total of 3 coats waiting about an hour in between each coat. Then, once the last coat was a little dry, I pulled my painters tape off.
I waited another 24 hours before covering it with chalk to cure it. Then, I got out my wood glue and clothespins to finish them up.
I just put a little bit of wood glue onto the clothespin and attached it to the back of the painted rectangle
They look pretty close to the original
sorry for the typed writing…my chalk marker was missing! |

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Famous Footwear for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
The first day of school is rapidly approaching. I’ve mentioned it before but this is our first year of officially going “back to school” since H will be starting Kindergarten. There is so much to do such as getting school supplies, completing school forms, buying new clothes and, of course, getting new shoes!
H is very particular about shoes. I know…she’s 5 but she has very specific tastes. Boots are really her favorite. It can be a real struggle to match her wants with my pocketbook. Famous Footwear is a great place for me to bridge the gap between the two. They all have all the cutest styles shoes and lots of boots for H to choose from. I can even get little E shoes too!

It is almost time for school and a lot of people are trying to squeeze in one final vacation. Jessica and Sarah, from Pretty Providence, have you covered with tips on how to vacation on a budget.
Meranda, from Our Abercrombie Family, made this really cute serving platter using paint chips!
And the project with the most views this week was…the thrift store dresser transformation from Megan at My Pinteresting Family. Look at that amazing transformation…so beautiful!
