While there might not be anything traditionally German about them, these German Chocolate Bars are the best dessert bars I have ever made. They’re delicious!
Pop Quiz: Did you know that there isn’t really much German about what we know as German chocolate? When Maya moved with us from Germany, I talked to her at length about all the things we think are “German” but really aren’t and German chocolate stuff was top of the list.
I guess it doesn’t matter where the name originated because it is so darn delicious. I rarely have the patience to make a German chocolate cake and typically go for these German Chocolate Bars instead.
These German chocolate cake bars are the most amazing combination of chocolate, coconut and pecans. I dare you to try and only eat one.
So, if you ever visit Germany, you probably won’t find anything like these German Chocolate Bars. That is totally ok though because you can make them at home any time you want. Just be warned: these German chocolate desserts go fast so you might want to make a double batch.

Hi – I just usually buy chocolate animal crackers and grind them into crumbs on my own. They also make chocolate wafer cookies that work great for crumbs.
