Last week, I shared with you a recent 5 week diet challenge I participated in. The overall goal of the challenge was weight loss but it was also used a motivational and educational tool to promote healthier habits for the participants. Getting healthier and developing better eating and exercise habits is one of my major goals for this year. So far, progress has been on the slow side but at least that has been some progress.
I am the type of person who definitely needs constant motivation and thrives on participating in a community for things like weight loss. I was ecstatic to hear about the program from Walgreens, “Steps with Balance Rewards”, that rewards you with balance rewards points for leading a healthier lifestyle and participating in their online community.
The first step was registering for the program. I already had a balance rewards card that I got in store {ask the store clerk and they can get you one right at check out}.
I need to link it to an online account though to participate. The Walgreens website makes this process super easy.
From there, I could easily access the Steps with Balance Rewards program by just clicking on the Get Started you see in the picture above.
The opening page allows me to set some goals and even rewarded me 250 rewards for setting my first goal! The first goal I added was to walk 10,000 steps each day for the next month!
Once I had set my goals, I realized I was going to need some tools to help me with them. So, I headed to Walgreens in my neighborhood.
I knew I wasn’t going to be able mentally keep track of how many steps I took each day so I started my shopping in search for a pedometer. I could wear each day and get a clear picture of how well I was doing towards reaching my walking goal.
Another goal for me is weight loss. I’m still holding onto {too} many of the pounds I gained with my last pregnancy While I don’t advocate weighing yourself every day, I do think it is important to have an accurate scale in the house and weight yourself once per week to see how much progress is being made towards your weight loss goal. My scale is super old and has taken a bit of abuse from the kids so I decided now was a great time to pick up a new one.
You can see more from shopping trip by visiting my Google+ album.
I am super excited about this program and, between my goal setting and my purchases, I am already being rewarded for my efforts through the Walgreen Balance Rewards system. That translates into money saved when I shop and who doesn’t like to save money! Now, it is time for me to start taking some of those steps.
Keep up with all the great information about products and promotions by following Walgreens on Facebook and Twitter.

This looks like a terrific program! I really need to get my hands on a pedometer, I’ve never thought to look at Walgreens.

That looks interesting. Do they have anything in that program that helps you when you slip up, or lose motivation?
