Now that school has started, our afternoons and evenings are extremely hectic. The kids spend all day at school and come home with homework, plans for play dates and, of course, after school activities. Before they get to any of that though, I always hear “I’m hungry!” It is so tempting to let them grab whatever chips they want and move along. Instead, I try to encourage them to make wiser choices and frequently pair a CLIF Kid Zbar® with a mixed berry basil smoothie.
CLIF Kid Zbars® are nutritious snacks made from organic ingredients and they are the perfect choice to keep my kids energized through all of their activities and play dates. Plus, they are the appropriate size for kids so it helps with teaching them healthy habits in their snacking choices. The current favorite in our house is the chocolate chip. Although, I do see my husband sneaking an oatmeal cookie one from time to time.
Since the kids drink water pretty much all day at school, I like to give them something a little different at home while they are enjoying their snack. We always keep berries in the freezer to make a mixed berry basil smoothie.
Mixed Berry Basil Smoothie Ingredients:
1 cup frozen berries (I use a mix of blueberries, raspberries and blackberries)
1 cup plain yogurt
1 cup apple juice
1 ripe banana
3 Tbsp fresh basil
Let’s Make It:
1. Combine all ingredients in a blender. Process until smooth.
2. Transfer mixture to strainer and strain into glasses to remove the seeds.
This smoothie is great for on the go or while the kids are sitting down for reading time. The same goes for the CLIF Kid Zbar®; perfect for at home or on the go.

The smoothie looks so good. I got some Clifkids bars and need to sample them. My youngest said that they were good.
