I have a black thumb. I pretty much kill just about plant that I work with in our yard. The sole survivor in our house is a Christmas cactus that was a gift from Junior and Stud Muffin when my grandfather died.
Knowing my limits, I tend to focus on other things on the outside of the house like lanterns and wreaths. It’s Spring though so I feel like I have to have some pretty plants around. Enter the $1.25 flowers.
I picked up 4 of them from Home Depot and brought them home. Mathlete helped me plant 2 of them in the ground and then I started working on planting the other two in the pots we have.
That is when I realized a major problem with my pots…they had no hole in the bottom!
This would cause some serious drainage issues and lead to my plants essentially drowning if we had a long{ish} period of rain. {Maybe my thumb isn’t as black as I thought!}
Mathlete grabbed his hammer and some nails and we made holes in the bottom of both pots.
I added some soil in the bottom of the pot and then placed my flower on top.
I added the rest of the top soil and placed them in their new home on the front porch.

For some reasons I can’t grow plants inside the house but outside I do all right. I seriously love your pot and your petunias are very pretty.

You can do it! A couple tips: when you have pot with no hole, add some rocks in the bottom. This will save you drilling a hole but will act like a hole in that it will drain excess water down below the dirt and into the rocks. Also, when planting annuals, loosen the roots and soil from the clump they come in. In addition, dead head flowers that are on the ajavascript:void(0)nnual at the time of planting if you can. This will allow the roots to grow and in a couple weeks you will have a great looking plant!

I never knew it was that easy putting holes in a planter and I like your plant. I discovered you on The Thrifty Home and I’m now following; I would appreciate it if you could follow back. Thanks
