Basketball fever is in full effect! It is almost impossible to go somewhere and not hear people talking about the latest game or see it on TV. In our office, brackets are always the topic of the day. We love having friends over to watch sporting events to a few of the basketball games is another great reason for a sports related party in our basement! Of course, no party is complete without party food. My latest addition to the game day spread are hot and spicy cheese meatballs.

Game day is coming! Just think: we are less than one week away from the BIG game. Every year, after we’ve recovered from the holidays, Mathlete and I start talking about what our next social event is going to be. Sure, my birthday is in early February but we usually like to have a low-key get together at our house before then. The logical choice is a party to watch the Big Game since a) we love football and b) it is the first major social event of the year. He is in charge of TV stuff and I am in charge of food. Hosting events during the holidays {or any time} can really be stressful. There is the menu planning, guest counts and so many other things to think about. Finding a few items that you can use instead of having to make everything from scratch can be a true game changer. My favorite “holiday hack” is using premade meatballs and then dressing them up with a delicious sauce to totally transform them into the perfect party snack. A recipe that is always a hit at parties is my easy apricot meatballs.

Between the holidays and then gearing up for major Football games in January and February, March can seem pretty sparse when it comes to activities. Unless, of course, you are a basketball fan! I don’t watch much basketball at all but love a good reason to invite friends over to hang out and a sports game is always a good one. With time being at a premium these days though, I don’t go all out with a full spread and tend to stick to things like pizza and chips with dip. Of course, that doesn’t mean, I just typically flop any old pizza on a plate and go with it. Nope, I find some #NewFavorites, like flavors DiGiorno just introduced, and make them even more delicious with a few extra touches.

One of my favorite restaurant “treats” is crab artichoke dip. I love how cheesy and delicious it is. With two kids at our dinner table, we rarely get to the appetizer portion of a meal though and tend to go straight for the main deal. So, I decided to make some at home to curb my recent craving.
